Having studied Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College, Laurence embarked on a career in finance working initially in Fixed Income Quantitative Research on the government bond desk for NatWest Markets.

After a few years working in the City in 1999 Laurence moved to New York where he specialised in Equity Risk Management with Wachovia Securities, focusing specifically on clients who had acquired concentrated stock positions through remuneration via stock options. There, he developed strategies to help clients protect the value of their equity holdings by using derivatives. He also helped clients to build diversified portfolios by using options to develop structured plans to sell their holdings at specific target prices.

Laurence moved to Ireland in 2006 where he took on the role of Director of Financial Planning at a prestigious tax and accountancy practice, McAvoy and Associates, located in Cork. Laurence was awarded the Gold Medal for the highest results in the Irish QFA (Qualified Financial Adviser) exams in 2007. Laurence developed his financial planning skills with a predominantly high net worth client base focussing on preparing full financial plans for each of his clients. This planning would include protection, pension and investment as well as tax and estate planning strategies.

Laurence joined Tavistock Private Client in 2018 and is currently working out of our London office. He recently achieved a merit in the CISI Advanced Financial Planning Exam and is working towards achieving the CFP qualification this November. Laurence continues to focus on developing full financial plans for his clients. Laurence is also an adviser with Raffingers Wealth Management which is the financial services arm of Raffingers Ltd, a firm of chartered accountants located in South Woodford.
